Vodnjan and The Feast of St. Foška
Spend a winter weekend in Istria and immerse yourself in the colours, flavours, and impressions of tradition and Christian heritage. Visit Pula, a city with a rich ancient history and architecture. Then, head to Vodnjan, a place that hides the most numerous sacral treasure in Europe and the best olive oil in the world.
PROGRAM SCHEDULE:
Day 1 – February 15th, 2025 – Saturday
Departure from Zagreb around 6 AM (possibility for pick up along the route). Drive towards Pula with stop along the way. Upon arrival, guided city tour and free time for coffee and lunch on your own. Early afternoon, head towards Vodnjan. Visit to a local olive grove with a view of the Brijuni Islands for a guided tour, tasting, and the opportunity to purchase world-class olive oil. Then, attend Mass at the parish church of Saints Peter and Paul in Sveti Petar u Šumi. Dinner and overnight stay in the local monastery.
Day 2 – February 16th, 2025 – Sunday
Breakfast. Check out from the accommodation. Around 9 AM, gathering in the center of Vodnjan and start a pilgrimage to the Basilica of Saint Foška for the celebration of Holy Mass at 12 PM. After the Mass, there is the opportunity to explore the nearby site “Three Kažuni,” followed by socialising and a meal in a nearby meadow. Afterward, visit the parish church of Saint Blaž for a guided tour of the rich sacral heritage of Vodnjan which includes relics of 290 saints. Return to Zagreb in the evening.
